Vineyard at Stockcross

The Vineyard at Stockcross brings a taste of California to the historic Royal County of Berkshire. Owned by Sir Peter Michael, the Vineyard takes its inspiration from the world renowned Peter Michael Winery in California but at the same time embraces the finest traditions of English country living. Guests at the luxurious 49 room 19th century hunting lodge can enjoy fishing on the River Kennet and shooting on the hotel’s estate at Eddington. The Newbury Races are nearby, as is the Vineyard’s sister hotel, the Donnington Valley Hotel and Golf Club, which offers a challenging 6,353 yard, 18-hole, par 71 course set amid beautiful rolling countryside. But it is wine that truly lifts the Vineyard into a class of its own. Wine Director Joao Pires oversees the impressive list of over 2,000 bins, including many rare vintages. Not to be missed is a tasting of Peter Michael’s award-winning California Chardonnays, followed by dinner at the Michelin-starred restaurant, under the expert direction of Chef John Campbell. the-vineyard.co.uk
