Since its opening in 1993, the El Conquistador and
Golden Door Spa—or El Con, as those in the know
call the course and resort—has set the gold
standard for golf in Puerto Rico. The only AAA Five
Diamond resort on the island, it is a 500-acre complex
consisting of five villages that sits on the northeast
tip where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea.
The resort’s architecture reflects 400 years
of Spanish influence, from the ornamental Moorish
flavor of Southern Spain to Old San Juan Spanish Colonial.
The main village features cobblestone streets, white
stucco and terra-cotta buildings, open-air plazas,
gas lamps and sparkling fountains decorate many of
the open spaces.
The Grand Hotel is at the center of it all with panoramic
views and special club amenities. Las Casitas Village is
an ultra-luxurious Spanish colonial haven with private pools
and butler service. Las Olas Village is built into the side
of a cliff and offers breathtaking views. La Marina Village
overlooks the sea and is just steps away from the marina.
Naturally, for golfers the crown jewel is the 18-hole Arthur
Hills championship course, which features dramatic elevation
changes and stunning views of the El Yunque rainforest and
the Caribbean. In a word, majestic. wyndham.com
