The
Art of Travel
A gallery of vintage Travel Posters
During
the early part of the 20th century, improved transportation,
leisure time and rising affluence made travel to faraway places
more than just a dream. And from Cruden Bay to Lake Como, from
the Canadian Rockies to the Swiss Alps, golf was part of the
allure.
The following selection—some of which were recently sold
at auction by Swann Galleries in Manhattan while others are
available in reprint from art.com—highlight the golden
age of travel posters during the 1920s and 1930s.
They are a colorful record of how chic destinations from around
the world sought to attract sporting travelers to their playgrounds.
